Fun Facts: This is a fantastic grape growing, harvesting and wine producing region — in Arizona – which has become known throughout the World. Once you see this dramatically Mountainous area from the sky, you will see what starts to look like parts of Europe. Which is why this Region’s topography, minerals, weather and land has become successful in Wine making. Rich in indigenous peoples history, it’s a fantastic experience.

It all started in the 1960’s right around Elgin, Arizona; with the University of Arizona Agriculture organization delving into exploring the land for potential in Grape growing and harvesting; enjoying the favorable soil and weather systems coming down off the jagged Huachuca’s, Dragoons and Chiricahua’s. The impressive elevation(s) up in the Dragoon’s to the East (with Dos Cabeza’s near the New Mexico border) and the Huachuca’s on the border with Mexico right to the south reach almost 10,000 Ft. above sea level.

Prevailing rains, wind and moderate temperatures flowing into the valley’s — set the stage for Wine making stomping possibilities from the improbable to the possible. Having toured the region on-the-ground — and here via Aircraft — I highly recommend it from Patagonia to the New Mexico border and up the Rio Grande River gorge. Magnificent.

The highest point, Chiricahua Peak, rises 9,759 feet (2,975 m) above sea level, approximately 6,000 feet (1,800 m) above the surrounding valleys.

Fast to 2021: Award winning wines are being produced and distributed all over the World from the likes of Callahan, Pillsbury, Sand Reconner, Seducieus (Maynard from Tool), Merkin, Dos Cabezas … and many others great contenders. I have driven these dirt roads and personally visited the grows even when their wasn’t official tours. The views of the Dragoon Mountain Range is particularly spectacular with Dos Cabezas. The State Park is awesome. Check it out. Maybe 15 miles North from the border with Mexico.

The Chiricahua Mountains — famous for the indigenous peoples like Chiricahua Apaches Geronimo and Cochise — just to the North and West will blow your mind too.

Cities included are Bisbee, Douglas, Naco, Patagonia, Elgin, Sierra Vista, and Tombstone.

There are Lakes on this region for kayaking, fishing, swimming and paddle boarding include — Parker and Patagonia offer stunning scenery.
